"Community Wish Tree" day at the Lanpher Memorial Library based on the book by Katherine Applegate. May 1 is the day for the wishes in the book and May 1 is the Wednesday during the 100th Anniversary of Children's Book Week.
How the day will go:
Teachers will sign up in advance for a time slot to walk to the Library with their students.
Classes will come in to the Library and write their wish on a strip of muslin fabric using permanent markers. (Pre-K, K, 1st grade will have pre-written wishes filled out earlier with them and helpers can help them write their wishes on the fabric)
Students will tie their wishes on the Pin Oak tree in front of the Library…who shall be called Pin (instead of Red in the book since Red was a Red Oak).
Each student will receive a free book to keep.
